Proposed Store Includes Grocery, Gas, Pharmacy

HARRISONBURG — Timberville residents and other interested parties now know when they will get the chance to voice their thoughts on a proposed 128,000-square-foot Walmart supercenter in town.
In a Wednesday email, Town Manager Austin Garber announced the public hearing would take place Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Plains Community Center at 233 McCauley Drive.
The hearing will be held before a joint meeting of Timberville Town Council and the Planning Commission.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and the property owner, Quail Lane Farm LLC, submitted a rezoning request for the proposed store’s site to the town on July 24.
The planned store will sit on 16 acres bounded by American Legion Drive, South Main Street and New Market Road.
The site, near Plains Elementary School, is mostly farmland, but is zoned for residential and business use.
The request is to rezone all of the property for business use.
The proposed store will include retail space, grocery sales, a pharmacy, gas station, tire-and-lube service and garden center.
In addition to attending the hearing, people can submit comments in writing, according to the announcement.
Additional information about the proposal is available at the town office at 392 S. Main St. from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
