Construction Group Honors Frazier

HARRISONBURG — Frazier Quarry, the Harrisonburg stone company that’s been serving the region since 1915, recently received a 2014 Community Excellence Award from the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance.
The award went to Frazier’s North Plant, located at 3044 Buttermilk Creek Road in Harrisonburg, in the category of companies that produce more than 500,000 tons per year. It recognized a Virginia mining operation that has “exhibited a high level of involvement in its surrounding communities in an effort to build positive relationships,” according to the alliance’s website.
It was presented at the organization’s annual meeting July 9-13 in Virginia Beach.
Mike Frazier, the customer service representation who prepared the award nomination for the company, said Friday that the North Plant and its employees provided fill material to aid the creation of a youth league baseball field in Broadway and material for the warning track of the Harrisonburg High School baseball stadium; donated large stones and worked with a farmer to rehabilitate a stream to create a trout habitat; provided sand for the volleyball courts at Our Community Place; hosted field trips for students and for the National Association of Geoscience Teachers; helped with multiple Eagle Scout projects and made donations to scholarship funds.
It was the first time the company has won the award, Frazier said.
The VTCA represents more than 300 companies involved in the design, construction and maintenance of Virginia’s transportation network, according to its website.
Frazier Quarry has four quarries in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, three of which are active.
