Rockingham Center for Research and Technology

Rockingham Center for Research and Technology is owned and operated by Rockingham County, Virginia. The 365-acre Class A, high-tech, high-value Center is located in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Metropolitan Area.

The Center is master planned for companies and and organizations desiring to facilitate research partnerships with State universities such as James Madison University, and with the private sector in a prosperous and stable economy.

The Center is a long-term County investment created to protect and enhance future property values, and to provide stable and diverse employment opportunities.

SRI International, the first partner, located on a 25-acre campus in the Center. A nonprofit research institute, SRI established the Center for Advanced Drug and Research on this campus. Rockingham County designed, built and leased the 43,000 square foot (s.f..) facility, which is expandable to 100,000 s.f., which was completed and occupied in the 4th quarter of 2009.

The SRI Shenandoah Valley (SRI-Valley) boasts a state-of-the-art research facility for conducting systems biology research in the areas of biodefense and neglected diseases. Educational policy research will also be conducted. Future research programs may include other high-technology areas such as homeland security, engineering, nanotechnology, information technology and energy.
