Site work began shortly after the official groundbreaking, which was held Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007. The building will be constructed just north of Harrisonburg, in the Rockingham County Research and Technology Park on route 11. The 40,000- square-foot tilt-up structure is scheduled for completion in July 2009. The new SRI center will create more than 100 new jobs in state-of-the-art pharmaceutical research. The center is temporarily conducting research at JMU. SRI International is a California-based, independent, nonprofit research institute conducting client-sponsored research and development for government agencies, commercial businesses, foundations, and other organizations. SRI also brings its innovations to the marketplace by licensing intellectual property and creating new ventures.
