North River Wastewater Treatment Plant

North River WWTF serves the City of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Rockingham County, Virginia.  The project increases the capacity of the plant from 12 MGD to 22 MGD, and will provide the plant with the Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) capability to meet the DEQ mandated December 31, 2010 requirements to such upgrades.  Virtually every process in the facility will be expanded during the process, including construction and commissioning of the following:
  • Influent Pump Station
  • Grit Removal Units
  • Biological Reactors
  • Secondary Anoxic Tanks
  • Acetic Acid Storage & Feed Systems
  • Ferric Chloride Storage & Feed Systems
  • Aeration Blowers
  • Final Clarifiers
  • RAS/WAS Pump Stations
  • Chlorine Contact Tanks
  • Fermenter
  • Solids Handling Building.

All plant services must remain online during the construction phase, necessitating very challenging temporary process arrangements and bypasses that must be installed before many of the new facilities can be constructed.
